If you are exploring thermal springs in Turkey as part of a trip to Troy, Kestanbol is a local option to consider around Ezine. A visit can fit alongside the ancient sites of the Troad without turning your holiday into a packed sightseeing schedule. Before setting off, it helps to understand the bathing arrangements, check day admission and decide which places you want to combine. Here is how we would approach the planning from a base in Ezine.
Where Are Kestanbol Hot Springs?
Kestanbol is in Körüktaşı village, in the Ezine district of Çanakkale province. For navigation, look for Kestanbol Kaplıcaları – Alexandria Troas Termal Otel. Keeping the Turkish name handy makes it easier to identify the destination when asking for directions.
Two ancient sites are worth distinguishing before you plan your route: Alexandria Troas and Troy are different places. The thermal property's name refers to Alexandria Troas; it does not mean that the baths are inside the archaeological site of Troy. Mark your accommodation, the baths and your chosen ruins as separate stops on the map.
Getting There from Ezine
If you are driving, set the thermal property as your destination and plan the route towards Körüktaşı from your actual starting point. A journey from Ezine town, Geyikli or central Çanakkale will have a different distance and travel time. Allow for the return journey as well, especially if you want to stop for dinner elsewhere.
Without a car, treat the journey to Ezine and the final connection to the baths as separate stages. We have not confirmed a direct scheduled public transport service to the property. Check local connections or arrange a taxi in advance, including how you will get back, instead of relying on finding a return ride after bathing.
Guests staying with us can use our hotel location page to identify their starting point. Save both destinations before leaving so that your accommodation and the thermal property remain easy to distinguish.
Day Visits and Bathing Arrangements
The operator lists separate indoor thermal pools for women and men, with day-visitor hours of 10:00–19:00. Couples and mixed groups should take this arrangement into account when deciding how to spend the day.
Confirm opening, last admission and the current entrance fee for your intended date. Ask what admission includes and whether advance booking is needed. An old price quoted elsewhere may not reflect the visit you are arranging.
Leave time to change and get ready for the journey back. An afternoon allocated to the baths is a planning allowance, not a recommendation to spend that entire period in thermal water. Keeping your next appointment flexible makes the outing easier to enjoy.
How Hot Is the Water?
The provincial culture and tourism authority records 67°C at Kestanbol's main spring. That is a source measurement, not the temperature of the bathing pool. Ask the property about the water temperature in the pool you would use.
Think of the visit as a thermal bathing experience within your holiday. If a health condition makes you unsure whether hot-water bathing is suitable, seek advice from your doctor and follow the facility's rules. There is no single bathing duration that this travel guide can recommend for everyone.
What to Bring and What to Ask
A small separate bag is useful if you are visiting archaeological sites on the same day. Keep dry clothes and walking shoes apart from wet bathing items.
- Pack: Swimwear, a towel, pool sandals, dry clothes and a bag for wet items.
- Check equipment rules: Ask about towel provision and any swimming-cap requirements.
- Travelling with children: Confirm age restrictions and bathing rules before deciding that the whole family will use the pools.
- Access needs: The operator states that its physical layout prevents it from accommodating disabled guests. Discuss your requirements before travelling.
- For the ruins: Bring suitable walking shoes, drinking water and clothing for the day's weather.
For a group outing, agree beforehand who actually wants to bathe. Planning around different interests is easier than discovering on arrival that some companions would prefer to spend their time elsewhere.
Kestanbol or Tuzla in Ayvacık?
You may also encounter Tuzla when researching hot springs in this part of Turkey. Here, the name refers to Tuzla in Ayvacık district, not the district of Tuzla in Istanbul. Include “Ayvacık” in your search to avoid confusing the two.
| Planning point |

Tuzla in Ayvacık |

An account of a thermal spring does not necessarily establish that a bathing facility is welcoming visitors today. Avoid treating Ayvacık Tuzla as an automatic substitute if your Kestanbol plans change.
Combining the Baths with Alexandria Troas
For an outing with two main stops, consider Alexandria Troas and Kestanbol. This suggested sequence leaves room for a meal and time between visits:
- Morning: Set out after breakfast for the ancient city. Our Alexandria Troas visitor guide helps you choose which remains to look for.
- Midday: Leave a gap for lunch and the onward journey, adjusting your plans to the time spent exploring.
- Afternoon: Visit Kestanbol under the admission arrangements you have confirmed, then allow an unhurried return.
If Troy and its museum are priorities, consider giving them a separate day. You can then explore without watching the clock for a bathing appointment. Use our Troy and Troy Museum guide to plan that part of your stay.
